Is SnoopInsta Legit? What the App Actually Does (and Doesn't Do)
SnoopInsta is a real iPhone app, listed on the Apple App Store under the name "SnoopInsta: Track New Follows," plus a companion website at snoopinsta.com. It is made by an independent developer and has no connection to Instagram or Meta. It does one specific job well: it notices when a public account, or a private account you already follow, follows someone new. It does not read messages, does not see who viewed a story, and cannot unlock a private account you don't follow. The person being tracked is never notified.
Is SnoopInsta a real app?
Yes. SnoopInsta is published on the iOS App Store, which means it went through Apple's standard app review process before being listed. It is a genuine, functioning product, not a fake listing or a phishing page. That said, "real app" and "does everything the keyword implies" are different questions, which is why the rest of this page is about scope, not hype.
What does SnoopInsta actually do?
SnoopInsta watches an Instagram username you add and checks it periodically. When a later check finds that the account has followed someone new, you get a push notification in the app or an email on the website. For private accounts, you first connect your own Instagram inside the app so it can see what you already see as a follower. It only knows about follows that happen after you start tracking, from your first check onward.
The app also has a separate "You" tab, where you log in to your own Instagram to see who doesn't follow you back, who you don't follow back, and who has recently followed or unfollowed you, counted from your first check. This is covered in more detail in our post on how to see who unfollowed you on Instagram.
What does SnoopInsta not do?
SnoopInsta does not read direct messages, comments, likes, or story views. It does not show Notes, activity status, or search history. It cannot find a secret account if you don't already know the username, and it cannot show the followers of a private account you don't follow. If a page or ad claims otherwise, that claim is not accurate for this app.
It also can't rebuild someone's full follow history before you started tracking. For the timeline question specifically, see how to see when someone followed someone on Instagram and how to see who someone followed, with history limits explained.
Is SnoopInsta affiliated with Instagram or Meta?
No. SnoopInsta is an independent third-party app. It is not built, endorsed, or operated by Instagram or its parent company, Meta. It works by checking publicly visible follow data (and, for private accounts, data visible to you as a follower) rather than through any special partnership or access.
How does payment and billing work?
Inside the iPhone app, subscriptions are billed through Apple's standard App Store payment system. That means your subscription is managed and cancelled in your Apple ID settings, the same place you'd manage any other app subscription, not through SnoopInsta directly. A purchase made on the snoopinsta.com website is separate and does not unlock the iOS app; the website only sends email alerts for tracked accounts, with no login or "You" tab.
If you have a billing question that isn't resolved through Apple ID settings, SnoopInsta's support is reachable at [email protected].
Is it safe to log in with my Instagram on the You tab?
The You tab login happens inside the iPhone app itself, not on a third-party website. Your follower and following lists are read and displayed on your phone. SnoopInsta should never ask you to type your Instagram password into a browser page or a non-Apple site; if you see that, it is not the legitimate app flow. If anything about a login prompt feels off, don't proceed, and email [email protected] to check.
Does the person I'm tracking get notified?
No. Instagram does not alert an account when someone adds it to a tracker like SnoopInsta, and SnoopInsta does not send any signal to the tracked account. The notification only goes to the person who set up the tracking, when a later check finds a new follow.
Track a Follow List With SnoopInsta
- Add the Instagram username you want to watch. For private accounts, connect your own Instagram first.
- SnoopInsta starts checking from that day forward, it has no record of follows from before.
- When a check finds a new follow, you get a push notification (app) or email (website).
Download the app: SnoopInsta on the App Store. You can also watch follow activity without the app using the free Instagram Follower Tracker tool.
FAQ
Is SnoopInsta free?
The app has a free tier that shows limited information, such as the first names on your "not following back" lists. Full lists and extra features require SnoopInsta Pro, billed through the App Store.
Can SnoopInsta see private accounts I don't follow?
No. It can only track private accounts you already follow, since it relies on what's visible to a follower, not on bypassing privacy settings.
Does SnoopInsta show mutual followers or who followed first?
Not directly inside the app's core tracking feature. For those specific questions, see our posts on who followed who first on Instagram.
Is a website purchase the same as an app purchase?
No. They're billed and managed separately. Buying on snoopinsta.com does not unlock the iPhone app's You tab or Pro features, and vice versa.
