How to See Everyone You've Ever Followed on Instagram

Instagram does not keep a visible record of everyone you have ever followed. The app only shows your current following list. Once you unfollow someone, they drop off that list permanently, with no built-in log to bring them back. SnoopInsta (iOS app) can't recover that past list either, since it only starts watching an account from the day you add it.

  • Instagram's own "Following Activity" tab, which once showed who you followed and when, was removed in October 2019.
  • Instagram's data download includes follow dates only for accounts you currently follow, not ones you've unfollowed.
  • There is no official export, setting, or third-party app that reconstructs a full historical follow list, including unfollowed accounts.

What does Instagram itself show?

Instagram shows your current following list on any profile, plus follow dates for currently-followed accounts if you download your data. It does not show accounts you followed in the past and later unfollowed. Here's how to check what's actually available:

  • Open your own profile and tap "Following" to see everyone you follow right now.
  • For another public profile, tap "Following" the same way (private profiles only show this to people who follow them back).
  • To get follow dates for your current list, go to Settings, then Accounts Center, then "Your information and permissions," then "Download your information." The export includes a following file with timestamps, but only for accounts still on your list.

What still does not work?

Three things people often look for simply aren't available: a historical "ever followed" list, an activity log for your own account, and a following list for a private account you don't follow. Instagram removed the feature that came closest to this in 2019.

The Following Activity tab, which let you see likes and follows from accounts you followed, was pulled by Instagram in October 2019 after limited use (TechCrunch). It never came back, and nothing has replaced it. Separately, Instagram's help documentation on account privacy confirms that a private account's following list is visible only to people who already follow that account, not to the general public.

If what you're actually trying to figure out is when a specific follow happened, rather than a full list, our post on how to see when someone followed someone on Instagram covers what's possible there. Where does SnoopInsta fit?

SnoopInsta can't show you the past. What it does is watch an account going forward and tell you when a later check finds a new follow. The person being watched is not notified that you're tracking them.

  1. Add a public username, or a private account you already follow, inside the SnoopInsta iOS app.
  2. The app starts watching from that day. It does not have access to follows that happened before you added the profile.
  3. You get an email, or you can tap "Check Now" in the app, when a new follow shows up after you started tracking.

This is useful if you're trying to stay aware of new activity on an account from today onward, not if you need a record of everything that happened before. For a running list of new followers rather than new follows, our free Instagram follower tracker tool works the same way.

FAQ

Can I recover a list of accounts I unfollowed years ago?

No. Instagram does not store or display accounts you've unfollowed anywhere in the app or in your data download. Once you unfollow someone, that entry is gone with no recovery option, official or otherwise.

Does downloading my data show everyone I've ever followed?

No. The "Following" file in Instagram's data download only lists accounts you currently follow, along with the date you followed each one. It does not include any account you've since unfollowed.

Is there a third-party app that shows full follow history?

No reliable one exists, because this data isn't exposed by Instagram to any app, including SnoopInsta. Any tool claiming to show a complete historical follow list for an account is working from guesses, not real data.

Can I at least track new follows going forward?

Yes. Adding a public account, or a private one you already follow, in SnoopInsta lets you get notified when a later check finds a new follow after the day you added it. That's forward tracking only, not a historical list.
